Posted by joby : my child having problem of breathing in night. he can not close his mouth and sleep. is it due to astma?
Reply: Dear Joby,Usually mouth breathing happens when some thing blocks the airway in the nose. Once this happens, your child is forced to overcome the block by opening the mouth to breath. It may be due to allergies. They cause swelling of the mucous membranes that line the nose. Mouth breathers also tend to get enlarged adenoids and tonsils that block the airway. So consult an E.N.T.Surgeon for an expert opinion.Best regards,Dr.Mohan
Posted by Scaria : I am suffering for the past more than 1 month with heavy cough but without sputum. The cough is more severe at night. I also feel itching in the throat while coughing. Could you kindly advise any suitable medicine. I have used antibiotics, cough syrup and inhaler, but without any success. Thanks in anticipation of your reply.
Reply: Dear Scaria,Dry cough often occurs after any of the infections like cold or sinusitis. If you have been exposed to irritants such as smoke, dust or chemical fumes then also it can occur.Cigarettes smoking or passive smoking, allergies and asthma are also common causes of dry cough. The infections cause inflammation of the throat and upper respiratory tract. This causes an irritation in the airways and dry cough is an attempt to remove this inflammation. In certain cases, a chronic dry cough can be symptom of a more serious condition like pneumonia, acute bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or sinusitis. If you are taking medicines for hyper tension like ACE inhibitors and beta blockers,It can also cause persistent dry cough. So to evaluate your problem you have to consult an experienced doctor. Rgds,Dr.Mohan.
Posted by anitha : Dear Dr.Mohanbabu, I have two kids of ages, 6 and 3 years old. They have mild asthma. For both of them if they are exposed to cold weather, they will have asthma attack. And it is unavoidable to protect them completely from cold climate as we live in a cold part of USA.I would like to know if there is any medication to protect them from frequent asthma attack other than the inhaler. Thanks, Anitha
Reply: Dear Anitha,You can try vasarishtam and sudarsanarishtam mixed in equal quantities. For the 3 year old child, dosage is 5 Ml and for the elder one 10 Ml twice daily after break fast and dinner along with one dhanwantharam pill. Indu kantham kashayam 2.5 Ml for the younger one and 5 Ml for the elder one.Dilute with twice the quantity of boiled cooled water and twice daily before food.Continue for three months.Avoid ice cold foods, curd, butter milk and grapes sour in taste.Rgds,Dr.Mohan.
Posted by johnson.k.maliakal : i am an asthma patient.cold, dust&polluted air is causing asthma.how to avoid this asthma disease
Reply: Dear Johnson,Most of the people get the attacks of Asthma when they are exposed to severe climate changes and altered food habits.Find out what causes or worsens your asthma, and take steps to avoid those triggers. Monitor your breathing. You may learn to recognize warning signs of an impending attack, such as slight coughing, wheezing or shortness of breath. Identify and treat attacks early.Refrain from smoking and try to avoid persons while they smoke.Warming up exercises can be done daily on a moderate level.Rgds Dr.Mohan
Posted by Devi : I am having veezing (rarely) for the last 3 years and now taking allopathic medicines like Asthalin, Seroflo. I would like to go for Ayurvedic treatment for this. Please let me know the medicines for this and diet for Ashtma. Would be very helpful and grateful if you could advise us the medicines and diet.
Reply: Dear Devi,You have breathing trouble only on rare occasions. So try to find out what causes or worsens your asthma, and take steps to avoid those triggers. Allergy is seen in different forms.Airborne pollens of certain trees, grasses and weeds, house dust that include dust mite particles, mold spores, cat and dog dander and latex dust are the commonly found ones. You have to observe diet restrictions which helps to prevent building up of excess mucous. It will be helpful to identify the type of foods(example milk and milk products, frozen foods, certain type of fishes, grapes, lime juice, peanuts etc)which may trigger your Asthma attack.Better avoid the foods which had aggravated your breathing problem in the past.Try to avoid persons while they smoke.Warming up exercises can be done daily on a moderate level. You can try dasamola rasyanam one tea spoon twice daily before breakfast and dinner.25 Ml kanakasavam and Dasamoolarishtam and one swasanandam pills twice daily after food to control your breathing problem.Rgds,Dr.Mohan.

Posted by prabhakaran : Dear Sir,I am suffering from piles for the last 6 months. Pls advice me about the ayurvedic remedeis and food habits required to control this problem.
Reply: Dear prabhakaran, piles, are swollen and inflamed veins in your anus and lower rectum. This may result from straining during a bowel movement or from the increased pressure on these veins like long time sitting.Itching, discomfort and bleeding are the usual symptoms. To prevent hemorrhoids from developing, try to take a diet that helps your stool always soft.A softer stool makes emptying the bowels easier and lessens the pressure on piles caused by straining thus preventing the hemorrhoids from protruding. Fiber rich diet with fruits, vegetables and whole grains adds bulk and moisture to the stool, and it speeds movement through the intestinal tract.Drink lots of fluids, mimimum 8 glass each day. Drinking plenty of water results in softer, bulkier stools.Milk, butter milk, and yam are also found effective.Alcohol,Chicken, spices, coffee and red chillies should be avoided as it can make stools dry.Keep the anal area clean.Soak regularly in a warm bath. Repeat this several times daily. In some cases using ice packs or cold compresses on the anus relieves swelling.Consult an ayurveda doctor for a proper diagnosis and treatment.Rgds,Dr.Mohan

I would like to continue some regular aurvedic medicines to come outof this. Can you pls advise some tips. With Thanks Mohandas
Reply: dear MohanDas,Moderate exercise helps to control breathing problems. Some times exertion can aggravate your problem also.It is ideal to find out what causes this breathing problem and try to avoid it.Try some breathing exercises like Kapalabhati to keep your lungs healthy and clear the nasal passage and lungs. This will help to control the movements of the diaphragm and to remove spasm in bronchial tubes. Warm Inhalation also helps to overcome breathing problem.Ayurveda medicines such as Vasakarishtam, and Swasanandam can help to reduce excess mucous. To control further attacks of Asthma Brihat vasavaleham twice a day before break fast and after dinner is ideal.Always insist on a light and early dinner.Avoid deep fried foods. Dr.Mohan

Reply: Dear George,Dust and cold weathers play a crucial role in Asthma patients. It is better to try some breathing exercises like pranayam to keep her lungs fit.Warm Inhalation also helps to overcome breathing problem.Fish, curd, butter milk, ice cold foods, sour fruits like lemon and grapes causes sputum collection.so avoid them as far as possible.Moderate exercise helps to control breathing problems. At times exertion can aggravate her problem also.Did she ever checked PFT(pulmonary function test)? She may need a clinical examination and evaluation.Ayurveda medicines will help to improve her breathing problem if taken on a long time basis.Rgds, Dr.Mohan

Posted by saju.j.samuel : did asma and hisnophelia is same? my childrens having breathing difficulty occationally and during night time it is more than day time. what type of ayurvedic medicine we can give them doctor?
Reply: Dear Saju,Frequent wheezing and breathlessness are symptoms typical to eosinophilia caused due to asthma.During sleep, the airways tend to narrow, which can cause increased airflow resistance. This may trigger nighttime coughing, which can cause more tightening of the airways. Increased drainage from sinuses can also trigger asthma in highly sensitive airways. There may be some unknown internal trigger for sleep-related asthma. Lying in a reclining position may also predispose your children to nighttime asthma problems. Many factors like accumulation of secretions in the airways (drainage from sinuses or postnasal drip), increased blood volume in the lungs, decreased lung volumes, and increased airway resistance are the common cause of night time asthma. So the symptoms are important to make a proper diagnosis and ayurvedic treatment.Rgds,Dr.Mohan

In spite of all these wide range of options, effective treatment of psoriasis can be challenging. The disease is unpredictable, going through cycles of improvement and worsening seemingly at random. Effects of psoriasis treatments also can be unpredictable; what works well for one person might be ineffective for another person. Rgds,Dr.Mohan.

Posted by Babu Daniel : Is there any medicine for hepatitics-b (for permanent cure)
Reply: Dear Babu,There is no scientifically proven treatment for acute hepatitis B.In acute cases, treatment is given for maintaining comfort and adequate nutritional balance, including replacement of fluids which are lost from vomiting and diarrhoea. Chronic hepatitis B is treated in developed countries. But the cost is unbearable even for the upper class people in our country. Hepatitis B virus is transmitted between people by contact with the blood or other body fluids (i.e. semen and vaginal fluid) of an infected person. Modes of transmission are the same for the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), but HBV is 50 to 100 times more infectious.Unlike HIV, HBV can survive outside the body for at least 7 days. During that time, the virus can still cause infection if it enters the body of a person who is not infected. But the good news is A vaccine against hepatitis B is available. Hepatitis B vaccine is 95% effective in preventing HBV infection and its chronic consequences.Rgds,Dr.Mohan.

Her problem is irregular periods and last period was on October 20th 2009. we approached our ayurvedic doctor, he says this problem due to PCOD/PCOS. Dr. please gives me the reasons for this ills and what is the treatment. Waiting for your valuable response. Thanks & Regards, Biju
Reply: Dear Biju,The cause of PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome)is unknown. These are some of the symptoms of PCOS: Irregular menstrual periods,no menstrual periods,Increased hair growth on the face, chest, stomach, back, thumbs,Over weight. In some cases skin color change to black on the neck, arms, breasts, or thighs, pelvic pain. When women have many small cysts in their ovaries it is generally termed poly cystic.Since there is no ovulation she may not be able to get pregnant. The ovaries are two small organs, one on each side of a womans uterus. A womans ovaries have follicles, which are tiny sacs filled with liquid that hold the eggs. These sacs also are called cysts. Each month about 20 eggs start to mature, but usually only one matures fully. As this one egg grows, the follicle accumulates fluid in it. When that egg matures, the follicle breaks open to release it. The egg then travels through the fallopian tube for fertilization. When the single egg leaves the follicle, ovulation takes place. In women with PCOS, the ovary doesnt make all of the hormones it needs for any of the eggs to fully mature. Follicles may start to grow and build up fluid. But no single follicle becomes large enough. Instead, some follicles may remain as cysts. Since no follicle becomes large enough and no egg matures or is released, ovulation does not occur and the hormone progesterone is not made. Without progesterone, a womans menstrual cycle is irregular or absent. Plus, the cysts make male hormones, which also prevent ovulation. To confirm the diagnosis consult a gynecologist for a vaginal ultrasound to examine the ovaries for cysts and check the endometrium,(the lining of the uterus). The uterine lining may become thicker if her periods are not regular. A blood test may be needed to check her hormone and glucose levels. Ayurveda medicines are effective for treating PCOS. It may take months to get the desired results. Rgds,Dr.Mohan.

Posted by saidwin : Im suffering from Chronical Bronchistis. The main problem is cough and need to spit in a regular interval. Let me know what to do with ayurveda
Reply: Dear Saidwin,Cigarette smoking is the main cause of chronic bronchitis. When tobacco smoke is inhaled into the lungs, it irritates the airways and they produce mucus. People who have been exposed for a long time to other things that irritate their lungs, such as chemical fumes, dust and other substances, can also develop chronic bronchitis.Try to avoid other things that can irritate your lungs, such as aerosol products like hairspray, spray deodorant and spray paint. Also avoid breathing in dust or chemical fumes. To protect your lungs, wear a mask over your nose and mouth if you are working in a polluted environment. If you are not diabetic you can try Dasamoola rasayanam or Brihat vasa avaleham. Rgds,Dr.Mohan

Posted by Abdul Rasheed : Please provide me your advise and medicine as preventive Thanks
Reply: Dear Rasheed,Identify and avoid asthma triggers. A number of outdoor allergens and irritants — ranging from pollen and mold to cold air and air pollution — can trigger asthma attacks. Find out what causes or worsens your asthma, and take steps to avoid those triggers. Monitor your breathing. You may learn to recognize warning signs of an impending attack, such as slight coughing, wheezing or shortness of breath. Identify and treat attacks early. If you act quickly, youre less likely to have a severe attack. You also wont need as much medication to control your symptoms.Continue your medication as instructed.Stop any activity that may have triggered the attack. Dont decide yourself to stop medicines Just because your asthma seems to be improving, dont try to change the dosage of medicine without consulting with your doctor. Rgds,Dr.Mohan

Reply: Dear Raj,Asthma is an allergic disease with or without hereditary back ground. So in some cases it can pass through generations.Allergic asthma is usually triggered by dust, cold climates and smoke.Certain foods can also aggravate the condition.Although symptoms do not exist all the time; but during an asthma attack, normal air passage through the blocked and narrow airways becomes difficult. This causes breathing problems like, sneezing, wheezing, coughing,Shortness of breath, fast or noisy breathing with or without panting. In most of the cases these are the common symptoms. But dont get panic.Consult a physician and according to his advice,if needed she can start treatment.Even if it is diagnosed as asthma it can be well controlled with medicines.Rgds,Dr.Mohan

Posted by TITTO : sir, iamm titto i am working in ksa.my problem is tomuch hair fall .becouse my hair bottom (oor kuru poley).what is the remedy ?pls
Reply: Dear Titto,Usually About 90 percent of the hair on your scalp is growing at any one time. About 10 percent of the hair on your scalp, at any one time, is in a resting phase. After 3 to 4 months, the resting hair falls out and new hair starts to grow in its place. It is normal to loose few hair every day as part of this cycle. However, some people may experience abnormal hair loss. Hair loss of this type can affect men, women and children. After a serious illness or a major surgery, due to the stress, you may suddenly lose lot of hair but it is temporary.Hormonal problems may cause hair loss. If your thyroid gland is overactive or under active, your hair may fall out.Due to the imbalance of male or female hormones, known as androgens and estrogens, hair loss can occur. Some medicines and certain infections can cause hair loss.Desalinated or water with high chlorine content can also damage hair. Finally, hair loss may occur as part of an underlying disease, such as lupus or diabetes. So it is important to find the cause so that it can be treated.Depending on your type of hair loss, treatments are available. If a medicine is causing your hair loss, your doctor may be able to prescribe a different medicine.Treating an infection may help stop the hair loss. Correcting a hormone imbalance may prevent further hair loss. Best regards,Dr.Mohan

Reply: Dear Siyath,Coughing is an important way to keep your throat and airways clear. However, excessive coughing may mean you have an underlying disease or disorder. Some coughs are dry, while others are considered productive.A productive cough is one that brings up mucus(sputum). Coughs can be either acute or chronic: Acute coughs usually begin suddenly and are often due to a cold, flu, or sinus infection. They usually go away after 3 weeks. If your cough is Chronic, consult a physician. Use a vaporizer for steam inhalation. It can help to sooth a dry throat. Drink plenty of fluids. Liquids help thin the mucus in your throat and make it easier to cough it up.Rgds,Dr.Mohan
